Located in Central Patagonia, Carrileufu River Valley is home to the stunning Carrileufu River Lodge in Argentina.
The recently built family-run lodge was built with anglers in mind ensuring guests have all the amenities of a premium fly fishing lodge at their disposal at the base of the Andes Mountain range with a wide range of top rivers nearby.
On the doorstep of Los Alerces National Park, widely regarded as one of Argentina’s most stunning national parks, the lodge offers easy access to a wide variety of crystal-clear rivers and lakes within the region which offer spectacular fishing for trout species including brown, brook and rainbows as well as land-locked Atlantic Salmon during the season.
Including paddock to plate prepared meals and fine wines, it’s an immersive Patagonian experience.
Carrileufu River Lodge, built in traditional Patagonian style, features large timber beams, river stone and high ceilings creating a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. It is an intimate lodge that can accommodate up to 12 people in the six well-appointed guest rooms. Each room features two queen-sized beds, private bathroom and outdoor lounge area from which to take in the stunning views of the river valley the Andes mountains.
After a day on the water, relax s in the lodge’s Great Room. Enjoy a drink from the open bar while relaxing in front of the fire. With floor to ceiling windows, the views will keep you captivated while you recall the day’s adventures. Alternatively, the lodge also offers a spa with sauna and massage service available to soothe those aching muscles after a big day on the river. For non-anglers, cultural visits to nearby Cholil and El Bolson can be arranged, including National Park walks or guided horseback rides.
The kitchen at Carrileufu lodge embraces a paddock to plate ethos and uses the freshest local ingredients producing world-class meals for guests. The extensive wine list offers the opportunity to sample some of Argentina’s finest wines including stunning Malbec and Pinot Noir varieties.

Carrileufu River Lodge is within easy access to many stunning rivers and lakes and fishing is for brown, brook and rainbow trout as well as Atlantic Salmon at times in the season. Travel times each day vary from twenty minutes to an hour fishing locations such as the Chubut, Carrileufu, Arrayanes and Rivadavia rivers.
Two anglers per guide fish mostly from rafts or drift boats but there is also opportunity for some wading.
Various dry fly patterns are employed by anglers for the majority of the season, but depending on conditions, nymph and streamers can also be successful.
The lodge offers rafts with casting frames and high-back seats as well as drift boats. Anglers should bring their own gear including rods, flies, reels, boots and waders; however, the lodge has a good selection of back up equipment.
Passport with a minimum of six months validity and photo ID to purchase a fishing licence. No visa is required for Australian passport holders for a stay of up to 90 days.
Fly to Buenos Aires and overnight before taking a 2.5-hour flight to Esquel the next morning. There you will be met by a lodge representative for a 1.5-hour transfer to Carrileufu River Lodge.
