For small parties wanting to have a prime Salmon river all to themselves, The Hrutafjardara River won’t disappoint. Situated on Iceland’s north-west coast, this private river is also located close to many other well-known rivers.
For this reason, it should be on the bucket list of all Salmon anglers considering a fishing trip to Iceland.
There is a self-catering lodge that is situated on the lower part of the Hrutafjardara River and has lovely views across the river. It is a great place to relax after a day’s fishing. This is a very private and exclusive location to fish and, if prefer solitude in the Icelandic wilderness, then this is a river that should be at the top of your list.
The lodge contains 4 twin-bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a sitting room with a fireplace. There is also plenty of room for fishing-gear and to dry clothing.
Whilst the lodge is self-catering, outside caterers and guides can be arranged at additional costs.
WIFI is available in the lodge but you will need to bring your own laptop or tablet.
The Hrutafjardara is a small river that is situated in the north of Iceland, approximately two hours drive from Reykjavik.
The river has a combination of Atlantic Salmon and Arctic Char with multi-sea Winter Salmon running throughout the season.
The river is a fly fishing only water. The river averages five to six hundred Salmon over the three rods allocated to fish it each season. Its reputation is highly regarded with local anglers and slowly coming onto the radar of overseas anglers. If you like having a river to yourself, then this is the place to fish.
All anglers are advised to take all the tackle and gear they will need to fish this river including rods reels, lines, terminal tackle and waders. Single-handed rods will cover most situations, however, a small switch-rod could also be used.
