Perfect for small parties, The Huseyjarkvisl River on Iceland’s north coast allows you to have a fantastic Salmon river all to yourself.
Providing the best sea trout fishing Iceland has to offer, it’s a must-visit destination for any angler wanting to fish Sea Trout in Europe.
A comfortable lodge is situated in the mid-section of the river and is only a short walk from the river banks.
There is accommodation for six people in three double bedrooms. There is a choice of self-catering or full-board in the lodge. There is a large kitchen and a living-room with a TV and plenty of room for gear and equipment. There is also thermal hot tub which sits on the river banks, just a short stroll from the top of the Trout beat and beginning of the Salmon beat.
Additionally, there is a hotel and restaurant not far from the lodge, should you prefer not to hire a chef or cook yourself.
If you like to combine both trout and salmon fishing or if you want to target large Sea Trout then this river is for you. This region is steeped in history and for the non-angler there is plenty to do such as river-rafting, historical tours and horse-back riding as well as boat-rides to nearby islands.
WIFI is available in the lodge but you will need to bring your own laptop or tablet.
The Huseyjarkvisl River is a 2-3 rod river and produces around two hundred fish per season.
The river is split into a Trout beat and a Salmon beat but there is also a large run of sizeable Sea Trout and the Huseyjarkvisl is regarded as one of the finest Sea Trout rivers in Iceland with many double-figure fish caught each season. All Salmon fishing is guided and is divided into one or two beats with one rod per beat. The river is perfect for fly fishing with some long pools and with nine kilometres of water to fish there is little pressure. Access is generally easy and will suit most anglers. The upper part is rocky and will require some agility.
The Trout beat offers miles of untouched Trout water to where the river joins the glacial Heradsvotn River. The Trout fishing is some of the finest in Iceland with fish averaging 3 lbs. Fish exceeding 5 lbs is not uncommon. In April and May, the river offers good Sea Trout fishing.
Due to the size and numbers of the Sea Trout in the river, there are rods specifically targeting Sea Trout in September as well. Then, five rods are allowed on the river, including the rods fishing the Salmon beats.
All anglers are advised to take all the tackle and gear they will need to fish this river including ods reels, lines, terminal tackle and waders. Single-handed rods will cover most situations, however, a small switch- or double-handed rod could be used if preferred.
