With one of the highest concentrations of large Peacock Bass in the world, the Colombian El Tuparro Reserve National Park has been kept well off the radar by fly fishermen until recent years. Virgin and unexplored, the Tomo River is home to over 280 fish species, including Vampire Fish, Pacu, and Piranha.
However, it’s the Temensis Peacock Bass which we will be targeting from 14ft skiffs, which average over 10lb’s in weight, including fish around 15lb’s encountered daily, and Bass up-to 26lb’s landed. Throw-in brilliant bird-life, caiman, iguana and pink dolphins and you have a fascinating fly fishing, jungle adventure!

Medellin, in Colombia’s mountainous Antioquia province it is Nicknamed the “City of Eternal Spring” for its beautiful temperate weather, enviable nightlife, museums and innovation. You have the option to arrive a few days early to explore this amazing city, and also known for its friendly, welcoming locals, fine coffee and stunning beauty.
4th February – Arrive to Medellin mid afternoon via Miami, for two nights. Explore the city, nightlife, and adjust to the time zone. Check in Click Clack Hotel.
5th February – Explore Medellin. Overnight Click Clack Hotel.
6th February – 9am depart Medellin to La Primavera, arriving at 11am. Then road transport by fleet of 4WD vehicles to the Tomo River (3-4hrs), and boat transfer to the floating river camp.
7th – 12th February – Fly Fishing the El Tuparro National Reserve, lagoons and tributaries.
13th February – Depart the river camp arriving in Medellin around 2pm. Overnight Click Clack hotel, Medellin.
14th February – Depart Medellin
Surrounded by nature, the floating camp, is very professionally run and allows the operation to fish different parts of the various rivers and inland lagoon systems over the 3-month season, and as such receives very little fishing pressure. The camp leaves no trace at seasons end, while also supporting local community conservation programs which we are always very supportive of.
The package includes 3 nights in Medellin staying at the premier Click Clack Hotel, and 7 nights in the floating river Camp on the Tomo River, located near the El Tuparro Reserve, Colombia. The river beach-side camp is a well-furnished floating pontoon that moves with you throughout the Tomo river, to ensure you are fishing unpressured water and to minimise the environmental impacts. It consists of 5 floating cabins, each of which is fully equipped with:
