Producing approximately 2,000 Salmon every season, The Langa River is considered to be one of the best salmon rivers in Iceland. In addition to boasting excellent fly fishing waters, the area is easy to access.
Overlooking the river, you’ll find an excellent twelve-rod lodge that gives anglers a perfect taste of fishing for Salmon in Iceland.
The lodge is situated about seventy kilometres west of Reykjavik. The lodge is fully serviced and offers accommodation for about ten anglers with plenty of room to relax after a day’s fishing.
There are eight twin-bedrooms with anglers normally being accommodated in individual rooms (unless you are sharing a rod), all with en-suite bathrooms. There is a dining room and living area where you can relax and discuss the day’s events. There is also a Sauna amongst the lodge facilities.
The lodge is situated on a hill, giving a panoramic view of the river below. Accommodation and food are included in the price, but guides and beverages are additional.
The lodge was built in the nineties and offers very comfortable accommodation.
The food is excellent and three meals a day provided. Lunch is usually taken on the river, but you can return to the lodge if you prefer.
WIFI is available in the lodge, but you will need to bring your own laptop or tablet.
The Langa River offers the keen Salmon angler varying flows of water that offer fly fishing challenges – from deep gorges to laddered rapids and streamy runs, waterfalls and gliding pools. The Langa has a lot to offer with over thirty-six kilometres and over one hundred named pools. Wading is shallow (ankle-deep) if required at all and, as a result, the fishing suits all ages and abilities. Fish often sit very close to the banks, and a light single-handed or switch-rod is more than adequate for this river. Access is easy, and in most cases, you can drive within fifty metres of each pool.
All the guides speak excellent English and can help with the techniques required to get the best from Salmon fishing in Iceland. The Langa has a dam at the outflow of the lake at the top of the river, and this helps to regulate the flow of water through the season, ensuring that even during dry times there is always water in the river. This makes it a very reliable river and in the top ten rivers in Iceland for fishing.
As with most of the Icelandic salmon rivers, the water is clear, and as such, requires smaller flies. The hitched fly can work well.
We would advise all anglers to bring their own gear, from waders and boots to rods, reels lines and flies etc. Whilst single-handed rods work very well; it is always worth putting in a small double-handed rod to offer variety on your fishing trip. The slightly longer double-handed rods can give you greater control over your fly, helping to work the pools more effectively.
