The Minnivallalaekur River is one of the best Brown Trout rivers in Europe and is ideal for small fishing groups.
The crystal-clear, spring-fed waters are home to massive Brown Trout, and anglers can enjoy all the creature comforts during their visit thanks to the comfortable self-catering lodge located on the river’s banks.
The lodge sits on a bend in the river, right next to one of the best pools, with a magnificent view to Mt Hekla in the distance.
There are four twin bedrooms, two bathrooms with showers, a well-equipped kitchen, dining-room and sitting-room, and a veranda with a thermal spa.
This is a self-catering lodge; however, catering can be arranged at additional costs.
WIFI is available in the lodge, but you will need to bring your own laptop or tablet.
The Minnivallalaekur River is fast becoming a world-famous river for producing large wild Trout between ten and sixteen pounds, each season. Fish average in excess of three pounds, and there is no prettier place to fly-fish in Iceland.
The seven-kilometres of spring-fed beauty might be the best wild brown trout river in Europe. Certainly, very few rivers would hold the number of double-figure fish that the ‘Minni’ is famous for producing. The fishing is truly stealth-fishing for large Wild Brown Trout in gin-clear water. This ‘fly only’ ‘catch and release’ fishery is available to four rods to ensure that it is sustained into the future. A guide can be arranged if required, and rod-sharing is allowed. Much of the fishing is with dry flies, but small nymphs are used as well.
5-6 weight rods and gear are ideal for these large Trout. We would advise all anglers to take all the equipment they need, including waders, boots, rods, reels, and lines.
