This idyllic region is home to a huge range of gin-clear freestone rivers, with helicopter access to numerous back-country rivers on the west coast which are perfect for targeting large Brown Trout throughout the season.
In addition to the lodge rooms, the property is now home to one of the finest luxury villas in the region – Falcon Brae, providing unparalleled privacy and spectacular 360-degree views for larger groups or exclusive use with a private chef and house staff.
Luxury accommodation is provided at both the main Lodge or the magnificent “Falcon Brae” villa, which overlooks the property.
Perched on a hilltop high above Stonefly Lodge, Falcon Brae is a recently built 720 sq meter villa with spectacular 360-degree views over the surrounding mountains and the majestic Motueka River below.
Comprising of three suites, the architecturally designed contemporary residence features a large central lounge area with a 5-metre ceiling, sunken bar, grand piano, media theatre, commercial kitchen, 3 dining areas and a stunning collection of New Zealand and local art.
Directly in front of the Helipad Terrace, guests can relax in the “Games Den” housing modern gym equipment, pool table, table tennis, darts and a games table. The large deck space overlooks the mountains and river, featuring a pool & outdoor heated spa, barbeque area for outdoor dining and entertaining with a shaded pergola.
The entire Villa can be booked as exclusive use with a private chef, and house staff, offering complete exclusive privacy. For larger groups, there is the option of renting both the Villa and Stonefly Lodge for a total capacity of 14 adults and 4 children.
Stonefly Lodge comprises with four guest rooms, each with spectacular views from private balconies overlooking the Motueka River and beyond to the Mt Arthur Range in Kahurangi National Park. All rooms are equipped with private en-suites, writing desk, luggage storage, hairdryer, heated towel rails and bathrobes. The guest-rooms are in two wings of the building enabling the rooms to be quite remote from the main activities area on the ground floor. A wireless internet connection is available throughout the lodge, including in the guest-rooms and the lodge offers an iPad which can be used in the guest-rooms for in-house entertainment if required.
Breakfast can be served on the guest-room private balconies if required.
You can relax after an enjoyable day exploring one of the National Parks and indulge in a private massage in your room by one of the local massage therapists/beauticians. For the non-angler, there are countless activities to do from hiking, horse riding and mountain biking to coastal charters rafting and heli-tours.
The cuisine is freshly made from the extensive garden using home-made produce, local quality meats and fresh seasonal seafood which is inspired and delicious. Special diets are easily catered for.
Complete with a library, a snooker table, and the ‘Matai Bar’, guests will have the ideal setting to relax after an exciting day’s fly fishing or after exploring the numerous sites and attractions of the local region. The upper landing area above the dining-room provides a quiet secluded place which can be used for fly-tying, to access the guest computer or to indulge in a game of chess or relax with a good book before retiring to your accommodation.

Ideally situated on the banks of the Motueka River between the confluence of the Wangapeka and Baton rivers, Stonefly Lodge provides guests intimate access to some of the finest Brown Trout fly fishing in New Zealand.
This region offers dozens of rivers and streams to choose from, with Brown Trout averaging 4-5lbs in weight, with numerous fish in the 7-12lb range to target also on a range of nymphs and dry fly patterns.
The wide choice of rivers available from Stonefly Fishing Lodge allows guests of all abilities to experience some amazing fly fishing, from relatively gentle flowing easy access rivers to more adventurous backcountry waters.
The location offers a wide choice of river catchment systems enabling the fly fishing guides to pick the most appropriate fly fishing destination according to the various flow rates throughout the season. The majority of fishing is done on foot, sight-casting to browns on 5-6 weight outfits, with gear available if required.
Within an hour’s drive, guests can access dozens of quality fly fishing streams and rivers within the Nelson Lakes and northern Murchison catchments while heli-fishing options also provide additional unparalleled access to numerous back-country rivers.
Overnight stays in Department of Conservation back-country huts can also be arranged into some of New Zealand’s most pristine wilderness fly fishing environments.

Passport with a minimum of six months validity and photo ID to purchase a fishing licence.
A tourist visa is required for all citizens (except Australians) entering New Zealand. A three-month tourist visa is provided by passport control when entering the country.
There are various international flight options to Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch. Then take an internal flight to Nelson. The transfer to the lodge takes around 50 minutes by hire car, while return helicopter transfers are also available.
