The Swampy Plains river catchment in the Kosciuszko National Park is one of Australia’s best brown trout fishing destinations, its headwaters commencing in Khancoban near the Victorian and New South Wales borders.
A tailrace fishery, with freestone rocks and boulders the river has numerous runs, riffles and pools with great holding water and prolific caddis hatches.
With fish ranging from half a pound to in excess of five pounds, and stunning scenery a day on the Swampy can yield big numbers of Brown Trout, either wading the edges or by drift boat.
The Swampy Plains Lodge situated perfectly with access to private water is a great city escape ideal for small groups around four hours from Melbourne in the highlands.
The Swampy Plains Lodge is situated on private property with riverfront access to the Swampy River.
Accommodating up to four anglers and two guides, the log cabin is cosy with open fire, kitchen facilities and everything you need for a short stay or weekend escape.
The famous Swampy River has prolific Caddis hatches, allowing to fish the larvae, pupa, emerger, adult and spinner stages with good numbers of Brown Trout possible each day.
With numerous holding pools, willow tree lines banks and faster water to fish, it’s a perfect environment for wading or floating the river from Spring through to the Autumn.
All gear can be provided as required, or you are welcome to bring your own. Floating lines with Nymphs, Emergers and Dry flies are predominantly used.
