Formerly owned by the Tahitian Royal Family and actor Marlon Brando, the island of Tetiaroa, is one of the most pristine, exclusive and stunning tropical islands anywhere in the world.
Now home to the luxurious resort “The Brando” it is also revered worldwide in fly fishing circles due to a population of Bonefish averaging 8lb’s in weight, triggerfish and large Giant Trevally that patrol the lagoon.
Together with the Tetiaroa Society, Fly Odyssey has been working on several fisheries research projects involving the study and tagging of Bonefish and Giant Trevally, which allows our clients’ exclusive access to this remarkable fishery.
In July 2014 a new luxury resort, The Brando, opened on this beautiful private atoll. The Brando is unique in concept and scope, combining environmental purity, luxury and Polynesian charm into an exceptional experience.
This small-scale resort (thirty-three villas) offers the ultimate luxury getaway. Every villa is on a white sand beach, has its own outdoor eating and private beach area, its own private pool, soft, cozy furnishings, large windows that let you indulge in the sun, the breeze and lagoon views, and modern conveniences such as a media room. And while enjoying the villa, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that everything that surrounds you has been designed around clean, renewable energy sources.
All stays at The Brando include luxurious accommodations, all meals in all dining venues, most beverages (bottled water, soft drinks, beer, and select wines, Champagne, and spirits), 24-hour dining in the privacy of your villa, one excursion per person per day from a select list of options, one spa treatment (fifty minutes) for one person per villa per day, laundry service, internet access, one bicycle per guest, access to an outrigger canoe, kayak and paddleboard as well as snorkelling equipment.
We also have a great range of resorts, hotels, villas and guest houses available on the nearby islands of Bora Bora, Moorea and Anaa Atoll if you wish to extend your time and experiences in the region.
With Fly Fishing exclusivity during your stay on Tetiaroa and at The Brando, our guide Teihotu will show you his home and the magnificent flats available to target trophy Bonefish, Giant Trevally and Triggerfish on a catch and release basis. Our clients will also be able to contribute to our fisheries research and tagging program with the Tetiaroa Society.
Anglers will have multiple shots each day at large single Bonefish feeding in 2-3 feet of water, with a stunning backdrop of palm-trees, white beaches and crystal-clear water. Averaging 8lb’s in weight, clients have also captured and tagged Bonefish in excess of 12lb’s and Giant Trevally well over a metre in length.
All fly fishing is done on foot, wading the flats while our private skiff will escort you quickly to the many remote and quiet bays and beaches adorning the Atoll.
As per all Fly Odyssey bookings, you will be provided with a comprehensive and detailed pre-trip fly fishing guide, prior to your departure.
Tetiaroa Society Research
Our partnership with Tetiaroa Society, a tax-exempt, US non-profit organisation dedicated to exploring innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing issues relating to sustainable interdependence, will allow anglers from around the world to participate in the research projects while staying at The Brando Hotel.
Tetiaroa Society supports conservation efforts aimed at developing the understanding of harmonious interactions between people and their surrounding ecosystems.
Inspired by the late Marlon Brando’s vision to preserve sanctuaries for future generations and raise awareness of the fragility of our environment, Tetiaroa Society was founded by Brando Enterprises and Pacific Beachcomber’s Richard Bailey and is supported by high profile members of the international scientific and entertainment communities.
Tahiti is easily accessible with direct flights throughout the week from Auckland, Tokyo and Los Angeles. On arrival into Papeete, Tahiti, you will be escorted to the private Air Tetiaroa lounge before boarding your charter for the short 20-minute flight to Tetiaroa.
Located thirty-three miles north of Tahiti, the Atoll of Tetiaroa is made up of twelve islets or ‘Motu’. It has an illustrious history, having previously been the resort home for the Tahitian Royal family. It was purchased by Marlon Brando in 1966 and was his sanctuary for more than twenty years.
With the research conducted at the Tetiaroa Society Eco-station, Tetiaroa serves as a living case study where the lessons learned can be implemented locally and applied to places across the globe, including Anaa Atoll in French Polynesia where we have founded the Island Initiative and community guiding program.
Fly Odyssey exclusively manages and runs the fly fishing program on Tetiaroa, and we have access to the best accommodation rates and updated availability at The Brando which varies throughout the season.
Our tailored itineraries to French Polynesia are designed with you in mind to suit your preferences and are generally quoted in your local currency with very favourable exchange rates.
We specialise in family, couples and group stays to the region, and our long involvement with our partners on the ground in Tahiti will ensure you are well looked after both on and off the water. This includes holidays to the nearby Islands of Moorea, Bora Bora and Anaa Atoll.
