Situated 85 miles from Anchorage on the remote Talachulitna River, Talaheim Lodge provides fly-fishermen with a unique and unforgettable experience on one of Alaska’s leading Pacific Salmon and Rainbow Trout fisheries.
The lodge is the only one in Alaska using helicopters to fly guests to rivers and streams in the area. Transported to the remotest locations, you can be sure you won’t encounter other anglers during your trip. It’s the ultimate wild fishing experience Alaska has to offer.
Talaheim lodge is a family-owned operation and constructed from local timbers from the onsite sawmill. It can cater for six to eight guests. It is quite private and remote and offers accommodation in three separate log cabins. Each cabin is equipped with all the modern conveniences together with a log-burner or central heating.
The main lodge is the hub of activities and is where you have breakfast and your evening meal. It is the place to share stories and tales of the day’s events.
Talaheim is primarily a fishing lodge, however, the lodge does offer a variety of wilderness activities for the non-fisher, from Glacier tours to camping, hiking and jet boat rides.
This is a unique setting in a remote location which is suited to the avid fisherman and explorer alike.
There is internet at Talaheim Lodge.
Located on the Talachulitna River in a remote location, Talaheim Lodge has access to one of the great pacific salmon and rainbow trout fisheries in Alaska.
All of the fly fisherman’s favourite Alaskan species are present in rivers surrounding Talaheim. Late June and July offer excellent King Salmon fishing, while August and September offer excellent Silver Salmon, Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden fishing. Grayling, Char and Pike are also available.
A typical day starts around 7:30 am with breakfast. Lunch is out on the river, and you are back to the lodge at 5:00 pm.
Pack single-handed fly rods or switch rods 5/6# Trout to 9# for salmon. There is equipment at the lodge, but it is recommended you advise them of your requirements before booking. Similarly, waders are useful, but no felt soles or again advise the lodge as they have some that guests can use.
Spinning gear is available to use at the lodge if you fancy a break from fly fishing.
The transfer from Anchorage airport to the lodge is by private helicopter. It takes approximately forty-five minutes.
