Tiamo Beach Resort offers a boutique hotel experience in a stunning location which is both private and secluded, with excellent personalised service and great bonefishing on offer.
Located in the south-east end of Andros Island, the magnificent natural surrounds create a serene, relaxed atmosphere, with pristine beaches, fine dining and range of activities to choose from each day.
Including numerous diving sites, sailing, watersports, spa facility, pool, and cocktail bar the resort is consistently ranked one of the finest in the Bahamas, perfect for couples and families looking to escape and rejuvenate.
Tiamo Resort combines luxury living with responsible environmental design. The eleven villas blend tastefully into their natural surroundings, taking advantage of the indigenous tropical vegetation to provide each one with a very private setting. All face the beach, and most have a private veranda and pool. For larger groups, there is also a three-bedroom luxury villa which includes simple yet beautiful sunset rooms.
The properties are all built from sustainable pine wood and are elevated on stilts to benefit from natural cooling and ventilation. Roofing is made from thatch that helps to insulate buildings and keep temperatures pleasant.
At the heart of the resort is The Great Room; it is here you’ll find a refined, spacious Bahamian lodge providing a welcome at all times of the day. Views from the Great Room are spectacular, out across the infinity pool to the azure Caribbean waters. The lodge’s terrace has three levels down to the beach, with alfresco dining on the upper decks, and the lower deck providing a sun-trap for bathers. It is the perfect place for breakfast, morning coffee and pre-dinner drinks.
For non-fishing guests or partners, there is a range of activities from kayaking to scuba diving (PADI Certification), nature trails, swimming or simply relax and read a book from the library or use the fully equipped gym and spa which offers a wide range of beauty and therapy treatments.
The island dining is a carefully crafted mix of Caribbean and fusion cuisine, made using the freshest local and organic ingredients, complemented by an excellent selection of wines from around the world.
There is an internet connection at Tiamo Resort, but you will need to bring your own laptop/tablet.
The stunning fishing grounds off Tiamo Resort are expansive, receive very little pressure throughout the year and are comprise a variety of cays, flats and lagoons full of eager Bonefish.
From the resort, you can fish the waters of the South Bight, and wade friendly waters around ‘Water Cay’ where shoals of Bonefish over a hundred yards across are often seen. The guides used locally are excellent instructors and can get you to deeper grounds to target larger Bonefish such as the fabled ‘Land of the Giants’ where some of the double-figure Bonefish can be found. Angler’s fish from 16-foot Dolphin Super Skiffs, complete with 90-100HP Yamaha outboards, poling platforms, and large casting decks.
Tiamo fishing gives you immediate access to an uncountable number of flats and undisturbed tidal creeks. Bonefish tend to be the primary target, but there are several areas on the West Side with resident Tarpon. Permit appear when least expected, and there are of course resident Barracuda, Snapper and Sharks, all of which can be caught on the fly. If you are Bonefishing for the first time, guided half days are possible. For the more adventurous, you can set out wading or kayaking from the resort and tackle them yourself.
South Andros also offers some of the best offshore fishing in the Caribbean. The Tongue of the Ocean is a mile-deep canyon which lies just one mile offshore, and the resort has its own fully equipped 28ft World Cat Boat which makes blue water fishing safe and easily accessible. Due to the absence of any commercial fishing, there are plentiful supplies of Wahoo, innumerable varieties of Snapper and Grouper, Mahi Mahi caught on both fly and bait along with several species of Tuna. The deep blue water is also the home to Marlin and Sailfish which are landed regularly.
While Tiamo endorses ‘Catch and Release’ using barbless hooks and protecting the marine environment, the big game boat does take the occasional fish and your catch can be freshly prepared by one of the talented chefs and served to you in the restaurant the same day.
Full and half-day expeditions can be organised.
